Hello
Just wanted to let you know how we spent the money raised from the xmas card
project.
For Manacare, the village center down south we got new supplies for all the
children at the Montessori school, this included: Shoes, uniforms,
backpacks, pencil cases with pencil and rubber, sharpener, ruler and crayons
inside. Drawing books and exercise books. Lunch boxes and flask.
Also we bought paints and have done a wall mural with some of the older kids
and bought supplies for more activity workshops. Photos to come ...
For the boys home we have installed mosquito screens in the dormitories. We
are now building a playground there on a piece of land they had that was
derelict, full of soil, and rubbish so you couldn't get in there.
They had some old equipment, but it was broken, and grotty. So we have
cleared the area and concreted it.
Also we will be raising the wall to make it safer. The playground equipment
we are restoring and painting. When that is done we will be putting rubber
matting down and some other safety precautions .Then decorating the area
.There are some pics on the facebook group site if you are interested, and
will soon be on the blog
http://emmainsrilanka.blogspot.com and more will
be added to as the work progresses. There's some picture attached also
The children are already playing in the bits that are half finished and they
have loved helping doing it up.
Thank you so much for all the support. This year's project has been the most
successful year yet. I'm already planning next Christmas's one so i hope we
can do even better.
There are lots of other opportunities to donate throughout the year if you
would like. For example we throw monthly birthday parties for all the
children in the boys' home to celebrate the children that had their birthday
that month.
In March we had 11 boys' birthdays, and this month more so we are always
looking for people to donate a cake or a gift so we can keep this going.
Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in.So thank you so so so much
