got a puncture on wednesday night and put a new tube in last night while repairing the old one. i was very careful and checked the tyre for glass several times, made sure it wasn't being pinched etc. i pumped it up slowly left it at 40 psi for a minute, then 80, then as i was getting it up to 120...BANG! wow. seriously my ears are still ringing today. i went quite deaf for a minute or so, my girlfriend who was two rooms away in the bath actually screamed in shock and i was so stunned couldn't reply for a few seconds. the room was instantly full of a haze of talcum power from inside the tube and the tyre had popped right off the rim.

turns out the tube was defective and had split along the seam for about 5cms. got a free replacement from evans today. i'll try not to be too jittery next time i pump up a tyre but man, 120 psi is loud!

why have you bought leng stem valves? you don't seem to have deep rim wheels!

y'know i just noticed that too. the original exploding one was normal length. ah well. guess i'll just have to buy those deep vees now!

yeah, that's a good excuse to me! careful though, the long valves are easily broken in normal rims, you don't want another explosion (I had that happen to me once, your ears have my sympathy!) - tyres are best hardened outdoors!

cheers p. hmmm oh yeah good point. maybe i'll pop back and exchange it for a normal one on the way home. can't hurt can it?

much as i'd love to pimp my ride right now i'm a bit skint from well... buying my ride. so the deep vs are going to have to wait. next up is new stem, bars and seat anyway. THEN maybe paintjob and wheels.
