Tulip time!

It's a short window of opportunity, they cultivate these endless fields of
colour for the bulbs, not the flowers.
In the next field they were going over them with a sort of giant lawn mower,
hacking the flower heads off so the green leaves can concentrate their
energies into dividing the bulbs underground.
On the road in the distance there was long, long traffic jam of (mostly
German) coaches all trying to get into the "Keukenhof" (a big botanical
garden based on the tulip).

Tnx all.

Driving flowers and plants from NL to UK is a mad job J, because it's mainly cut-flowers they have to go like the clappers, usually through the night, after the auction in Almere has decided what's going where.
Once in the UK they often have dozens of drops to get through, from road-side stalls to supermarkets, before racing back to the nearest boat back to NL to start all over again the next day.
Days like Mother's day or Valentine's are complete nightmares.
I never saw an "old" flower-driver.

These are just an ace set of pics .... the back story makes it a little sad ..... and there has to be a little 'shopping going on there in the last two shots :)

so over the top but that's what I expect, down to the flower mowing.

flower auction here is complete craziness. 5 am. stay away from flowers and live long.

No shoppin' Maggie, other than a little "levels" and tidying-up,
Mike & Boet really were "tiptoeing through the tulips".
