well. hmmm. graphics card gone wrong.
amongst other things.
my pc days are over. sorry.
sometimes it all just is a little ridiculous.
how about sleep?
Well I've gotten it to boot... I still don't know what's wrong or what caused it, though.
That looked more like a hard drive problem than a graphics card issue. Back up everything critical while it's working and see if you can find some drive diagnostics to run. Could be just a loose connection, but it could certainly be getting ready to fail completely.
Hard drives aren't very expensive these days, but it's a chore reinstalling all your apps. It's no big crisis if you get all your data off first, though...

Fortunately, the drive that was acting so strangely only contained program files, not data. I have all the install files on another drive (though I should burn a few dvds so I have hard copy.)
the issue was that it was the boot drive, so I couldn't keep Chuck from locking up long enough to do anything. It looks like (we hope) it was a badly seated drive. Loose connection, etc. It's been stable since last night, and now I have a new internal SATA in there as well. I do need to make some hard backups of things soon though.
In this case there's nothing to back up, since there's nothing on my boot drive but program files- there's no data stored there. The issue was that the boot drive was only intermittently being seen by the bios, so I couldn't boot Chuck in order to back anything up even if I wanted to. If the boot drive goes down I won't lose any data, but I won't be able to use the computer, either.
It seems to be fine now. I think it was probably just a badly seated drive or a loose connection. It's been stable since last night so i am hoping it's fixed now.
