As seen from the rail-head at the channel tunnel.
I seem to remember there was some controversy about this a couple of years ago when it was first proposed, something about it disturbing the local fauna.
I couldn't imagine why then, still can't now.
Does anyone know?

Lovely image.

How on earth could it disturb local fauna?! Unless they're art critics, of course....

Was local flora dug up to expose chalky soil underneath? Or buried in chalk? (I'm assuming it's chalk...)

I Googled it, it's not a chalk bank, they laid down a 420 meter "garden path" of chalk slabs.
The "green brigade" (and I'm a fully paid-up member of Greenpeace) won a European court injunction to get it stopped but they did it anyway. (?)
Apparently there were/are rare wild orchids in the area but the turf layer they excavated was carefully re-laid further along the bank and now there's a ruddy great fence to keep out vandals, which you would imagine could only be a positive thing for the flars!
Perhaps, indeed, the local rabbit population are a bit too art-critical to appreciate it fully and have left in a huff, but that can only be good for the orchids too.
