I have these every where. I just found a spider in the house and I cannot locate it any where on the web. I can tell you that I am way creeped out right now. I hate spiders.

FYI--this is probably an Orb Weaver spider. They are common and I have seen many in Medford (and other places). I've always felt that the beauty of a spider that makes a web is that, as long as they are fed, they won't wander around.

I wish I could see the detail on the spider better. We found one in beavercreek about 3.5 inches. It had bright yellow markings, did this one?

Gina. says:

Yeah, well.. I've seen these spiders around Junction City, Oregon.

I doubt they're poisonous, but who knows.
It is wood-like here in various places, so I am not sure how many I've seen. Not too many indoors, though,

Ummm... is that like a picture of a spider on a window / web with the building in the background.... or.... is that the actual spider on the wall of that building?? If so... damn, I'd totally torch that building and move out of town ASAP!!

That spider is nothing campared to what I juat saw in my garden. I was cutting my herb garden and I noticed alot of webs toward the back and a spoder egg sac. GROSS. So I cleaned it out and threw the trash alog with the egg sac to the trash. Then today I go to plant some more herbs in its place and a HUGE black widow the size of a mature roach was crawling out of my way. OMG I ran to get the insect spray and I dont think it will do the trick. If I could I would set it on fire. I have the shivvers just thiinking about it.

Ellen(ekshrtlf-at-ccountry-dot-net) says:

I live in Jackson Co., sw of Medford, and we have a good selection of spicers, including black widows. One day I saw a spider which resembled a black widow in form travelling across the mowed weeds. It was black with a bright white stripe down the cephalothorax and abdoman and a wavy orange line inside the white stripe. It was about half the size of a female black widow and appeared, from the relative size of the abdoman, to be a female. It had bright white crescent shaped markings on the abdoman where male black widows have tan or pale yellow. There was an orange hourglass on the underside. I haven't found a description of it anywhere yet.

You may have discovered a new species, you never know. You can always take it in to the pest division of an Oregon Department of Agriculture office, someone familiar with spiders could help you.

I don't like spiders.. well, I don't like getting bit by spiders. Were getting a LOT of them around our house in yard (live in Salem). Started spraying Permectin II under the house eaves, around the foundation etc.. Kills bugs (spider food) and the spiders for like 30 days. Been doing it for a few years and works really well.

I hate spiders! I have a zillion on these in my yard. They get huge this time of year. Also be sure to look above your head in the garden, because they hang from trees too. Oregon has to be the spider captial of the world! ...get me out of here.
