Hey, give him a break. It's been really windy...

No this wasn't wind. He looked like he was just incredibly rumpled. He didnt look very happy, as piegeons go. I felt kinda bad.

That's not a good look for a bird. Probably close to the end. Tough as they may seem, city life takes it's toll on pigeons. London pigeons progressively lose their toes (some sort of infection), which eventually finishes them off.

I've seen pigeons missing toes here also. This one just looked positively pathetic.

I don't mind the pigeons. It gives the falcons something to eat.

Euphro says:

You have falcons?! You do have artificial cliffs, I suppose...

The Peregrine Falcon. The unofficially official bird of NYC. They LOVE it here- high places to perch and nest and an unlimited food supply. We get hawks too.

Euphro says:

That's great. I sort of collect these reports. Like wallabies in the English South Downs (chalky bit south of London; Bennet's wallabies as it turns out), parrakeets in London suburbs (Neasden), Raccoons in Germany, and so on. Keeps things from going extinct...

bronxelf says:

Oh we have lots of raccoons here, and skunks. Deer, certainly since they have nowhere to *go* anymore. Lots of wildlife. :)

Euphro says:

Sounds like what has happened with foxes in UK cities. Here in Cambridge we have urban Sika deer, although you normally only see these dead, often along with a wrecked car...

bronxelf says:

Deer here are generally white tailed deer. There's no shortage of deer, only a shortage of habitat. Too many people under the fundamental delusion that real estate is unlimited, and everyone is entitled to a detached, single family home in the suburbs.

(dont get me started on this one, I'll rant for days.)
