So want a nap.

So don't have time for a nap.

Finally got ink for the printer. Good. Now I can get these plans finished.
That will take care of four pages....

Why yes, I do have an unlimited amount of silly hats.

That one is cool. I used to have one a bit like that when I was in the circus..

Just printing and mounting to go then? That's not so bad, you can make it :)

Joe says:

we should have a "see who has the most hats" competition....I believe I would win....I have lost count of mine...there is a cupboard in my house dedicated soley to hats.

9th Apr 2005, 22:14

bronxelf says:

No. I just hit a *big* problem here.

*tries not to cry*

And Im WAY far from just mounting and printing. I have a countdown list going here But I have a BIG problem now, with scale. I've now both emailed AND called my professor. No reply.

I fucking *hate* this. I feel like I'm killing myself for *nothing*.

Ladygarden says:

Not a hat person. Probably because of my 'sweetie shaped head'... (something my sister always said about me when I was about 8)

mat says:

Owch! *sympathy. and lots of tea*

I know it looks impossible, but it always amazes me what people can do when they really go for it. You strike me as the kind of person who, when faced with a problem, kicks it's ass into submission - I reckon you can do it, and do it well too.

Just think about how great you're going to feel after handing it in.. : )

oh, and if all else fails, claim computer failure.

9th Apr 2005, 22:51

bronxelf says:

I don't think you quite understand the problem. I should explain.

The program requirements say that all my floor plans need to be in 1/4" scale. However the presentation requirements state 8'5"x14" paper.

Got news: 1/4" scale plans? They won't fit on that size paper.

Even better? Plans at 3/16" scale *also* won't fit on that size paper.

Plans at 1/8" scale WILL fit, but theyre so small as to almost be useless. You can't read any of the dimensions or the annotations because the plans are so small.

So one wonders why dont I increase the paper size?

Okay, first of all, the plans will *still* not fit if I increase to 8.5x17 in 3/16" scale. For the record? To get 1//4" scale plans? I'd have to go to Arch. paper at 18"x24". I'd need a plotter for that. I don't have a plotter.

I could go to 11x17 and print in 3/16" scale. Problem: I can't print 11 inch wide paper here. In order for me to send that out, this project would have to be *totally finished* by tomorrow to handle the turnaround time at the printers, which has a *ZERO* percent chance of happening. It also will cost me a metric butt ton of cash I don't have handy to have it done. It would cost me about 100 bucks all told to have this printed properly at the size I need it by the time I need it printed by.

So not happening by Monday.

So I have now called and emailed my teacher asking for his input and I got NOTHING as a reply. I feel like I've been killing myself on this for DAYS for NOTHING cause at 1/8" scale the plans are largely useless anyway.

Shoes says:

oh dear! Can anyone you know over there lend you the money?...or maybe they might let you hand it in on disc?? ....could you get an extension on the hand in date?...is it at all possible to put it on paper by hand?..maybe print it on acetate and project it onto paper somehow (OHP or even using a torch!) to enlarge it then draw over the projection then try and give it a professional finish somehow on the drawing board??! ....

*clutches at straws & crosses fingers & toes for you*

10th Apr 2005, 00:32

bronxelf says:

Well my solution was to email, then call. No reply.

Since Im out of real options, what I did was work with the plans at 1/8" scale for the presentation. I then *emailed* the *full* set of CAD plans to my teacher. This way when he has to *grade* it? He can look at it directly on his laptop in whatever scale he wants.

They can't say I didn't *try*.

Im rendering the floor plans now in photoshop. Mike is cutting up paper, so I can print everything that's ready to go now, so as not to clog the printer all in one go later (I had printer failure on my last project from that.). IF (and it's a HUGE if) I can get *EVERYTHING* but the last four pages of data (three perspectives and the 2 longitudinal sections) ready by say 9am EST? there's hope. If not? Im screwed. It's gonna be *that* tight.

Ack, good luck.

Chenav: If you have a decent connection, I have a song for you. I can upload it to the server.

10th Apr 2005, 01:17

Chenav says:

I have a 40 Mbits connection at home, so it could be considered as "decent" I think... Damn it ! I spend 2 min to type this message: my hands don't answer to my head and I keep on typing the wrong letters...
I am gonna post some pics of my alcoholic night...

10th Apr 2005, 01:21

bronxelf says:

Okay, give me a moment. This is an old (for values of old that are about 30 years) song...

go here
and grab "Phil Ochs-When I'm Gone". Let me know if you want me to send the lyrics (I know it might be hard to catch all of it in English.

10th Apr 2005, 01:38

Chenav says:

I don't know what to think about that (I understood it well ). This blog is probably not the best place for me to talk about it anyway...

10th Apr 2005, 02:02

bronxelf says:

Point is, you're still here.

You can only do things while you are.

You can't, when you're gone.

10th Apr 2005, 02:28

Chenav says:

I agree completely (even if I have more alcohol than serum in my blood).
But then the question is: what are the things that bring you to real happiness while you are here ?
We all have our own opinion on that.

(Alcohol makes me philosopher, that's great :p)

10th Apr 2005, 02:39

bronxelf says:

Does it matter? Even if they're gone.

If youre still here, you have to do *something*.

beth says:

have a kip. they better.

10th Apr 2005, 02:44

bronxelf says:

No time. Seriously. I will *barely* make deadline as it is, IF it's even possible. This is the last 48. Crunch time. I just printed six pages (I have two others I *can* print)

That's 8 out of 22.

Still going.

10th Apr 2005, 02:46

beth says:

you can do it. i believe in you -claps hands-

10th Apr 2005, 02:47

bronxelf says:

Remind me after this project is over to discuss that phrase.

Thank you, that just made me feel better than you can *possibly* know. THANK YOU.

10th Apr 2005, 02:48

beth says:

really .. you got it covered. you just have to push for so many more hours and then it'll be done.

i did my gcse graphics coursework and i was still drawing things and cutting out things as my dad was packing it up to take it to school for the -final- -final- deadline it was properly last minute. but i did just fine. i'm always scraping the last minute. it gives you a real sense of acheivement. -thinks about doing some work-

-goes to bed- x

you can do it

10th Apr 2005, 02:52

bronxelf says:

Talk to you in the morning.... :) I'll still be here.

10th Apr 2005, 02:54

beth says:

how's it?

10th Apr 2005, 11:34

bronxelf says:

Still going. Finishing up the touchups to floorplan #2 (of 4) now. Will likely crash for four after this. if it makes it, it will be an absolute miracle. I don't think it's possible, but Im going to keep going.

Should have another three pages printed within the hour.

I know I am way late on the Phil Ochs comment, but I have to add it. A bit over a year ago, while listening to Thea Gilmore's cover of "When I'm Gone" I put this on my blog.

Just went back through it and some of the links aren't there anymore - but it was a fun way to avoid working on my thesis at the time. :)

12th Apr 2005, 15:09

bronxelf says:

Okay, so that's Phil Ochs *and* Boingo?

We need to talk.

12th Apr 2005, 16:43
