been using it since december :)

I thought there was no net access at all here, till one day, my laptop was on the table in the living room, and had managed to find a network. a bit of investigation showed I could get a better signal nearer the window, and even better once i bought myself an access point, to use as a repeater...

teflon says:

well.. password protecting your base station is a good start. the one i'm using not only isn't using WEP or WPA, but is still using the default password for the admin screens..

you using windows Hotdog?...there are applications available to see whats going on, but by default windows doesn't log anything (to my knowledge)...I have a network monitor running on my linux machine which shows me exactly who is doing what, and even lets me message them and realtime control what they have access to....handy

You might also be able to log in to your wireless base station and check for connected users there..

beth says:

yes .. i have people using mine. which i don't mind when they don't know who they're felching from. what i do mind is the people in my house i know full well are using it and know full well it's MY broadband and can't be bothered to chip in say.. 3 quid a month between us all to gain access. that's just rude.

teflon says:

ooh, that is a bit annoying.

If I knew where this wifi link was coming from, I'd use 'cup of tea' protocol. but since all I know is that it's coming from across the road (since it dips a bit when buses drive past), it's a bit tricky

Joe says:

beth, I can show you how to make it inaccessible to them if you like? :)

JudgeTredd says:

bloody hell. am i the only fool paying for all of my b band then? aside from beth...

12th May 2005, 02:08

beth says:

yes i'd quite like to ban anyone within the house radius who aint paying. anyone beyond that i don't much care about because one. they can't hog the airways in the same way and two. i think it's kind of fun leaching internet.

Helen says:

My wireless network is tight. Oh yeah.

(I wasn't so clever when I used the network's name as my password, but hey.)
