swan gang signs

I was training at the Great Hospital today; an old folks home which has been
going since the 13th century or something absurdly long ago - It's a lovely
place, full of buildings dating from all periods of history since then and
chock full of mad old items. It was also the only place in England to have a
swan pit - a place where the great and the good could send their cygnets for
fattening in time for michelmas and whatnot; this is a picture of the
identifying marks of their owners... them some mean looking swans!
