I was bought a 3 disc set of New Romantic classics for my birthday last month - still playing them : )
funny, i was watching the video to Love Action just this morning and thinking how much i love Phil Oakeys style.
never thought of HL as new romantic.
Oh, I do - but there are some others on there that are pushing the envelope, eg. Kraftwerk, China Crisis and Thomas Dolby. More 80s really, but says New Romantic on the label...

nige: Love action is my favourite HL hit.
Jane: I used to love China Crisis.
I make no secret of the age gap between BS and me. The man who later became my husband was courting me when HL were producing their best stuff. BS was going through puberty at that time. He said he was ashamed of thinking *don't you want me?* was a catchy tune even though it had no guitars....
We have a longer drive tomorrow. I may dig out Soft Cell. It's 80s weekend here at the rift!
hahaha. i'd like to hear more of that 80's story, twiglet.
jane, i'm putting my foot down on that one - no way HL were New Romantic. their background is Electronic, as were Kraftwerk and Thomas Dolby. You been buying those 99p compilations again from the local shop? Hehehe.
I think you might be in denial here Nige, Human League were new romantic for life, yo. Those cats are pretty well acknowledged as 'lectronic pioneers so hairs be a'splittin'
listen to the voice of Buddha.
word, Buddha. i guess i judge all new romantics by how frilly their cuffs were.
ookiine: Me too!
nige and Rich: This must be settled in a civilized manner. How about synths at dawn? Or frilly shirts at 50 paces....
