A bird had fallen into our pond this morning, so I wheeched it out with a big old net (hence Mutley) and let it dry in the sun (hence Rolf). It's looking a lot happier now and should hopefully fly away in the next hour or two.

Makes a nice change from fishing the dead ones out!

Does this happen a lot then? What's so attractive about your pond? Do they think it might be confusing it with a bird bath?

This reminds me a bit of the Pigeon Street episode when one of the pigeons wanted to be a duck and kept trying to go on the pond. In the end Long Distance Clara had to take him to the sea side to meet some sea gulls, I think, anyway the pigeon got seasick and decided it'd rather be a normal pigeon after all. The lesson from all that being 'it's no use trying to be something you're not' or something inspirational like that :)

We have had a few sparrows in there who seem to drown quite quickly - probably about 8-10 or so in the past few years, but none for ages.

We recently put some plants in and this fella managed to keep his head above water by sticking his head in the plants, so all he had to do was dry in the sun and get his bearings back. Phewee!
