The Ego

What you don?t see isn?t there. What you can?t see doesn?t exist. You
invented the world. You are its creator. It was made deep within you
and you project it out, so that it surrounds you and blankets you and
cushions you and torments you.

What you can?t comprehend isn?t there. The thoughts you don?t think
are yet to be conceived. The words you haven?t read aren?t written
yet. And they erase themselves once you?ve turned the page. You are
their author. You are the only author. Everything comes from within.

There?s nobody but you. You are on your own. The bodies that surround
you, the things they say?it?s all you. You, you, you. There is only
one perception ? yours.

Do you see how important you are? If you were to cease then everything
would stop. And this is true ? and it?s true for us all, because we?re
all you.

I suppose this should be followed up by "THE SUPEREGO", for the sake
of balance.

That's just the Ego minus a pair of glasses and plus luchidor boots and a cape, right? With his sidekick, Kid Id? Versus the supervillain team-up of the century, The Solipsist and The Slip?

Give the kid a cigar! (As long as it's just a cigar...)

You give quite a rendition, and the picture pairing is picture-perfect! I'd love to see the whole series (even not as a comic), followed by the Jungian Archetypes....

I think that series should be written by different people...

I chose the picture because Gormley is just a bit of an egoist, placing casts of his own naked body all over the world. A beach full of bronze people, that are all him. But the text was written independantly.

I think I scared myself when I wrote this.

Think you just got closest to explaining it to me.

The ego is one of those concepts that i have never quite understood. Like if someone says the other has 'a big ego' i dont actually understand whether or not it is a metaphor. Is the ego a recognisable in and of itself or is only seen within a set of components? Like a ventricle is so called, when attached but could just be an artery if found, chopped off from the originating heart and floating in your soup. Or if my ego is hurt, what bit of me is it that feels pain? I find the whole thing a headache! Poor me... LOL
