Ta, it's a nice neck of the woods alright.
Scarthin's an old mining settlement, later a hub of the Industrial Revolution. The Pond was constructed to provide a good head of water for local mills. The area's now part of a Unesco World Heritage Site called the Derwent Valley Mills.
