Sucker for reflections and repeating geometry. Erratic uploader but always taking more pics. Now more behind than ever thanks to several recent work trips.

Currently shooting with a Panasonic DMC-TZ3, which has all the zoom I could ever need, but lacks some other refinements. It'll do until there's an affordable SLR with enormo-zoom that I can fit in my pocket; watching the Four Thirds consortium with interest ...

I don't suppose you made it to The 49th Parallel coffee shop? It has some of the world's best coffees (including an espresso that'll set you back $50!)

We did, actually - the one on 4th, in Kits - don't know if they have others? The coffee was great, but the atmosphere was a bit frigid, and I felt underdressed! (And I'm told that by Vancouver standards, my outfit is a bit more put-together than average ;o) We're bigger fans of the Kits Coffee Company, and JJBean.

This shot was actually taken in a place on Commercial whose name forever escapes me - the one with the white interior and bamboo blinds near the crest of the hill, on the East side. Always baking hot in there during the summer! Good coffee though, and lots of Powerbooks and Macbooks on display, which always makes me feel at home ;)

We've wandered out to Commercial a couple of times, from Downtown; love all those big houses in Shaughnessy. Last time we walked back, too, along East Hastings, which was eye-opening but I'm glad we did it. For the worst postcode in Canada, it's surprisingly unthreatening (don't know if you could say the same at night though).

Ah, cool. Yeah, there are a number of pretentious coffee shops here, but at least the coffee is good. The Wicked Cafe on 7th and Hemlock is also great coffee, but a pretentious crowd.

I don't go down to Commercial too often (I live by Granville Island), but the bars restaurants and coffee shops there are all great, despite the *ahem* interesting people on the streets.

East Hastings isn't too bad at night either; at worst it feels like an ok area of London at night. There are a lot of nutters trying to sell drugs though. It's sad to see so many homeless and disabled people there, but it never feels too threatening. As is the way with most cities, the best clubs are in the Gastown/Hastings area.

Vancouver coffee is the best I've ever had. Yes, even better than Barcelona! I don't know the Wicked Cafe, but I might check it out next visit if the clientele don't put me off ;)

Yeah, Commercial's got a really interesting vibe. I like knowing it exists! As for the downtown east side, I feel really bad for it ... somehow being part of one of the best cities anywhere just cranks up the pathos. When we visited Sun-Yat Sen there was a guy shooting up on the street outside. If we ever move there, I'm going to feel compelled to get involved. BTW, Vancouver's homeless must be among the most courteous in the world (though I think maybe Toronto's come a close second).
