I'm impressed you managed to get a camera between the turtle and its laying nest.
Was this part of the food collecting?

No food collection, this was a monitoring exercise only JE. Once the turtle starts to lay eggs, there is very little that can be done to stop her from doing whats she is doing.

Lacepede Island is a mecca for turtles. The beach, above high tide mark, really does look like a bomb site, where the turtles dig their holes. Like someone else said previously, turtles that were born here, come here every year to lay eggs once they are mature enough to do so.

The Beagle Bay rangers might do some conservation work, where they collect eggs early in the season, so that they can hatch them in incubators. This is because the amount of turtles that lay at Lacepede is so large that turtles often dig holes for laying, where other turtles have laid before. This results in one nest of eggs being destroyed. At this stage though, they dont have the resources to do everything that they want to.
