A couple of photos doing the rounds after the Victorian fires. Very cute
and very special, but these poor babies have been very badly burnt and
will have serious recovery issues.

Admit I got a bit tearful at the original footage of the famous koala. So much lost & her with her poor burnt paw in his hand... I know, I know, she was doing it to soothe her burns in the water on his palm, but the pain & shock could just as easily made her aggressive. Anthropomorphic I may well be, but it was such a "we're in this together" moment...

And thank you - there are few sights quite as cheering as a koala having a bath. :)

Koalas were my absolute favourite animal as a child, I was somewhat obsessed, so thanks for showing us these pictures. Poor things! Poor Australians generally!

its heartening that there is still time for animal welfare in such times..........

The whole animal welfare thing is huge, P. Farmers are supplying hay and other food- trucked in from all over the place including interstate. Local farmers are offerring their farm space to house horses and other animals (especially those who no longer have owners alive to care for them) and the local zoo- Healsville Sanctuary is looking after a lot of wildlife. Some of their keepers have lost their homes in the fires and yet are still caring for the wildlife.

Current stats on the fires: 1800 homes lost, 181 confirmed dead which may rise to about 300. Overwhelming!
