I make things on the web, mobile and in the actual world.

I've done lots of bits and bobs over the years, and right now I'm mostly working on this.

I enjoy speaking about things I like, most recently this. You can email me if you'd like, and I'm on twitter.

New 'Share' Tab live on Moblog

(viewed 1858 times)
Bookmark and Share
Today we added a new tab to your profile edit page called 'share' which allows you to share your Moblog posts outside of the main site.

You can now easily and automatically send your Moblog posts to your Flickr account, and we have added a link to a moblog widget which can be installed almost anywhere, including Facebook and Myspace.

Please let us know how you get on using these new features, and do share any suggestions or ideas you have for other features you'd like to see at this forum post.

Pleased to see this go live! The widgetbox integration is really good - but what are the ideal dimensions to do your own header image?

Could we add a widget header image upload section to the profile? Then we could just grab the URL from here, rather than have to upload the image somewhere else.

Also, for SMS text posts, the widget wont take the SMS update holding picture, and instead says there is not image. Maybe we could take the avatar image instead? With an SMS update watermark on it?

Ah, I thought we'd fixed that SMS hold graphic error, Ill let Dan know. Adding a 'browse' button to upload a graphic is really part of a larger issue of moblog customisation, and not one we can easily address with this widget, being as it's customisation is done at the widgetbox end. The dimensions for widget header images is: 172px × 45px

Sweeeeet. I've added my Fb widget but I think i'll change the header image. Wish I could get the widget on my main page tab instead of my boxes tab though. Bugger.

At some point it would also be cool to select whether you want to ping the mobile or web feed of your blog or group. For instance, have just adjusted microhappy's syndication to twitter, so that it sends out mobile site version - but had to do this via twitter feed.

Alfie says:

Yes, that's a very tough one, as it's extremely unclear how people predominantly access the twitter service. My suspicion is that it is very much mostly web, especially considering the plethora of desktop and web apps built around its API and how people tend to behave with it (posted via SMS is something which I almost never see in my stream for example).

The ideal way for this to work, IMO, is that we send the web URL out to twitter and with a bit of astute user agent sniffing if we sense a mobile browser we draw a "View the mobile version of this page" link front and centre so the user can choose how they view the page.

I;m not too worried about browser detection right now. Apple iphone always delivers the full fat site, when actually the mobile version of moblog look much better (IMO).

i think mobloggers should have a choice which feed they want to send - that would be a decision based on where they see people using their service. So for example, it makes sense to only publish the mobile feed for microhappy.

At the very least we should publish the mobile site feed more visibly if people want to use it.

It works just great, do a search for moblogdotnet there, it's the denoting tag we send to Flickr.
