Well, I just like this pic, I am the last person on this site to give any sort of informed opinion on your choice of camera .... I just hope that whatever you choose you will get lots of pleasure out of it .....
Nice accidental buying! Welcome to the "never enough gear" club. ;D
Well, I'm Nikon all the way, I love my D80 and wish I could afford bigger and better, but I have no complaints. Rick used to have a Canon, back in his film days and loved the thing. When he gets around to a new camera, it will be a Nikon because we can share lenses.
As far as I'm concerned, people who take the whole Nikon/Canon thing seriously should be automatically dismissed. Most of them are all talk, and couldn't take a decent photo for money. Just have fun with your new camera and take many, many pics!
Great shot.
Love the 'accidentally bought'!
And I am definitely jealous.
Must get myself a DSLR at some point but for now my tiny (but lovely) Exilim ex-z750 and cameraphone will have to do.
Wow, that's great! I'm with Caine on this. Both companies produce great cameras and the only thing that often decides it is legacy. I've got all Nikon digital bodies because my wife had a Nikon film body and lens when I moved to digital (if I had a lot of money I'd have a Nikon D3 for low light and outdoor and a Canon 5D for portraits). You will have a huge amount of fun as you build your collection of lenses. For wide angles the Sigma 10-20 zoom is as good as anything out there :)
Ken Rockwell is one of my photogods, and while he's mostly Nikon, he has a lot of stuff on Canon too. Mostly what he has is common sense. You might want to give 'Your Camera Doesn't Matter' http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/notcamera.htm a read. It's well worth it, and chock full of encouragement and inspiration.
:D So happy for you. Who cares what it says on the body. It's what you do with it that counts, so take it everywhere, never miss an opportunity, and enjoy it!
Thank you all!
Caine - I have been looking on that website a lot recently during my research! I will give that article a read, thank you :)
I never get involved in these silly debates, hence my loyalty to Olympus cameras. I've always used Olympus, and probably always will; I still have my original OM1, my XA2, my first Camedia digital, my trusty, portable and undamageable SW720 and now my loverly E420 DSLR. Of course, as soon as I'd acquired the DSLR, a tripod came soon after, and from there the wishlist began to grow... I'm sure you will grow to love your accidental purchase dearly and I look forward to seeing the fruits of your labours. Enjoy!
you'll have lots of fun, and there will always be something to save for now...I also accidentally bought a Canon--and when those equipmentheads get going, I leave..I never read my manual. Join a camera club, find someone nearby that rambles and shoots. Or take a course. I am moblog taught mostly. It's the best school going. There is no question too silly.
have fun.
swamprose - I'm signed up for a Open University Digital Photography course that starts in May :) Which is why i wanted to get a camera and get comfortable with it before then.
Looking forward to in uberly.
Mandy, that's a good group idea - I'm still learning and will take all the help I can get. That, and assignments are always fun to get the brain ticking over.
Caine, i agree about the assignments. That's why i'm so excited about this course i'm going to be doing. It'll help get me all inspired and creative while learning at the same time :)
Yep, I do various assignments online at different photog sites. I think an assignment group would be fun here, with a group of people rotating on giving the assignment. Mandy, Factotum, Nige, JoxerXL, Rich, Mara and bfish all come to mind as people who would be good at handing them out. :D
I concur! I would find a group like that fun and educational. We should make it happen.
Now how should we do that?
Yes, napping is important, you're napping for two. The start sounds great, all that's needed is to rope other peoples in.
