RIP Dr Bob Moog

Sadly Dr Robert Moog died yesterday afternoon after suffering from cancer. Quite possibly one of the most influential non musicians to play the role in the development of music in the 20th century.Brian Eno, David Bowie, disco and every single electronic artist would be nothing without him and only Leo Fender did more for music.

My first thought : damn... shame..
My second thought: fsck... now if I want something vintage, I'll have to pay even more.

I feel like a bad person for having that second thought. : x

He's really done loads of amazing stuff. I'm particularly glad about his work on the theremin (though it was mostly perfect to begin with, I don't think you'd see as many modern bands using it without the stuff he did.). (always wanted to learn to play that. will eventually get around to it.)

Well I'm sure Alison Goldfrapp wouldn't be able to do the dirty things she does with her theremin without his work.

I can't look at one without thinking of her these days. Dirty, dirty, dirty girl.

uh oh... I've neglected goldfrapp on a visual level. is there a music video out there I should look for when I get home?

The one to watch is the Live in London DVD. One of the last tracks has some X-rated theremin action.

How she could do that with her mum in the crowd I don't know.

Damn. I've just found out that there's a live Goldfrapp PA in Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street tonight. It's free. But all the tickets have gone.

Think you're a bit too far away to reach the PA anyway, Belf.

Sigh. Terrible shame, but thank Impersonal Forces that he gave such fantastic sounds to the world. Thinking about it, about 70% of my record collection has Moog synths burbling away on them. Gotta love that sound.

bronxelf says:

Rich-didn't care about the PA. Just about Bob Moog dying.

Just :( all the way round.

The man himself pronounced it that way.

I really with I had gone to that talk he gave last year in Glasgow. Kinda feels like it would have been worth the twevle quid it cost.

*raises mitten*

I will also attest to the pronounciation of Moog. Met him years ago when I was still going to Berklee for that useless deggre.
