Pansy tears

Artist Paul Harfleet today planted a pansy at the site of the killing of Michael Causer in Liverpool. (These are not they, these are Manchester pansies).

18-year-old Michael died of injuries sustained in a brutal beating by several young men. Despite evidence given in court that abuse such as "you little queer faggot" was shouted throughout the attack, the judge directed that this was not a homophobic incident.

Michael's family and the gay community of Liverpool don't necessarily feel the same way.

Only one attacker was convicted.

Though I'm a firm opponnent of "victims' czars" & other uncivilising forces in our courts; we really do have to get us some better judges.

Indeed. It looks likely that there will be an appeal. I also have to say that Michael's death is only the inevitable consequence of homophobic bullying and abuse being tolerated and in some places the norm.

Ach, I know, I know. Breaks my heart.

Sometimes, when yet another knuckle-dragging, hairy-palmed, shitwitted fucktard gets a murder charge reduced, or has a "provocation" mitigation plea accepted on the grounds that his (male) victim allegedly made a pass at him, I'm filled with the urge to tie judges to their own benches & explain the situation very, very carefully indeed. Reckon the Powerpoint presentation should be called, "Imagine If The Ladies, God Bless 'Em, Were Allowed To Carry On Like This." & then we go straight to a Q&A; session involving electrical behavioural therapy.

As a sort of starter for 10, I'd like to trial the technique on Andy "all the other kids are doing it" Parfitt first...

Ahem. As a woman of great height, I have often been mistaken for a gay man, sometimes harmlessly - motorcycling clothes, slender frame & a shaved head did lead me to a few comedy moments involving Freddie Mercury clones, but I've also been Stanley-knifed by wannabe queer bashers. In my emotion on the subject, I seem to have pressed "send" before proofing for family-friendliness. Feel free to edit. ;)

Been following this for a while. Can't get over the fact that despite him being so tiny, *they* still regard him as having brought it upon himself. Incredibly sad.

Hildegard, I'm extremely sorry to hear that you've been on the end of queer-bashing. Wannabe or not.
