that's brilliant. I have to show this to the docs I work for - infectious diseases and infection control. (we're being blasted with phone calls about this.)

Thanks all. I'm glad this is raising a smile. My daughter told me that she and a friend made a joke about swine flu at school today and was shouted at by the teacher until the friend cried. ( It would be some harsh telling off indeed that broke MY daughter to tears). You would think people in authority would be glad to know that some of us just aren't panicking and for God's sake haven't we always made jokes about anything we can? Apparently not as the teacher (RE and PE) thinks it's disrespectful to those who have died.....

The teacher in question then worked them so hard in PE on what turned out to be a very hot afternoon that Brian fainted.

Me: Do you want me to send Dad up there to complain?

DD: Naah! I'm seeing the head myself on Tuesday.

She is so like me and goes absolutely crazy at any signs of injustice. Oh how I love her!

RE & PE eh? Probably not the sharpest knife in the pedagogic drawer then. RE is one subject where I have no compunction in saying that academic standards have slipped lamentably in recent years. As to PE - think once, think twice, think Estelle Morris....

My opinion of teachers is well known which is funny when you consider who I have chosen to spend my life with. I have so far spared moblog the battle we have had with the school because BS's brother is getting married on 15th May which is the last day of the SATs tests and DD has been asked to be his bridesmaid. Although the teachers are planning on boycotting the SATs themselves they have tried to make us feel like unfit parents (FAIL).

As for the swine flu joke which caused the upset on Friday, R4 broadcast one (below) on the same day. I only hope she wrote in and complained....

*I phoned up NHS direct to get advice about swine flu but it was a bad line and all I got was crackling...*
