Males tend to stop doing that when they're fullgrown & though some individuals do keep it up, females seem to do it far more. There are definite differences in the pelvic structure of adult male & female dogs, so that could be why - the dog version of men not being able to cross their legs twice. Or maybe it's just less comfy on a dog's undercarriage than on a bitch's...
