What a fabulous face! And tremendous nerve, too. A character wonderfully captured. Faved.
:) Thanks Caine. He really meant everything he said. Some of the other images I took of him were great and much closer to his face, but I really like the Bride's expression in this one.
Thanks for the h/l!
I do like the 3 girls in the back. One huge grin, one tentative smile and one rather sour!
That's fantastic. Great story too.
That's fantastic. Great story too.
That's fantastic. Great story too.
Whoops!
Excellent
what a great shot.....I'm glad you obliged him :-)
The Bride and Groom will look back fondly on this as well
Craft, Dhamaka, AF, puff1n & paintist, thank you! I'm mighty chuffed with this one. I've had some great feedback and I think i'm going to enter this one in the next WPJA competition.
Definitely do that Nige. Posed photos never have the character like this one.
oh that's priceless :D
What a golden opportunity Nige and well captured too.
Nicely observed Wendle. I've noticed that there are certain people who like to steal the show at other people's weddings. I knew someone who announced their engagement at someone elses wedding - lo and behold, instant engagement party.
Great shot. I'm so glad you blogged it as I wanted to see it again. As I said before, there is something very uncomfortable in the tension between the subject's trusting gaze and the fact he's being laughed at that makes it a great photo.
Great photo. I join OJ on the fact that you can feel some tension or uneasiness in the bride party. Need more character like him
Jig along, I certainly will : )
Thanks mscm, OJ & minkey. I think I feel the same way regarding the sense of unease.
taniwha, seriously? I can't believe someone (or two) would have the audacity to do that on anothers special day. Phenomenally rude.
I remember discussing it with friends at dinner once and getting the impression that it has happened more than once.
Anyway, weddings like counselling sessions should be one of the few times where you can enjoy being the total centre of attention.
Oh really taniwha? I can imagine how someone could get carried away with the romance and decide to get engaged. But still....
What's the WPJA nige. My wild stab at an acronym of the day says "Wedding Photo Journalists Association". Do I win the prize (or catch the bouquet as I'm sure they say at the WPJA annual dinner)?
Haha. Quite right t.
Quite right too, OJ. You do indeed catch the bouquet. I was fortunate enough to be granted membership a few months ago. They only represent about 50 photogs in England, so they really help with my bookings.
yh, that's the bride in the background. She was quite stunned, but thought it very funny. The day was quite literally filled with characters.
What a brilliant shot .... and I bet it doesn't have half the impact in colour ... you are so good at choosing the right medium for the pic ... in picking out detail, I like the way his hat reflects the fabric of his trolley bag ... I love that he has taken centre stage but the bride is still where your eye is drawn too after him .... :)
Nige, I think this would be a good contender in the next competition. I imagine one of the reasons you were accepted into their ranks is because of your offbeat style. It's way better than the same old, staid, traditional wedding photos (which we've all seen too many times - different people, same photos.)
The best photos of people tell a story, and this has a terrific story.
...All of the above. Brilliant shot mate. He reminds me of Compo from 'Last of the Summer Wine'...
Thanks so much everyone. I am bolstered to definitely enter this in the next comp!
re taniwha comments I knew a sister in law who when she discovered that the bride was going to wear red decided she was going to get a bigger redder dress! imagine the surprise when the bride arrived wearing a beautiful white dress!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually I also remeber a sister or the bride wearing a massive hat (she was the only one) which looked like a massive wok. what a wedding !!!!!
Brilliant nige, I like the expressions of those in the background too.
That's fantastic. Great story! I think that's one of the Best wedding photos I've ever seen.

Love all their faces and he brought his trolly dolly with him. Priceless
