Ribbons of what look, from a distance, like allotments seem to run along railway lines and rivers, in this part of Germany at least. They are much more manicured though- lawns, summer houses and patios abound. Some seem to be in private ownership. I feel a new obsession coming on. Run blog number two. . . Perhaps I should start tagging jogblog.

Ooh, cheers for these. Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Scandiwegia - they're all over, those summerhouse allotments & I do like 'em.

Never understood the ownership thing - whether you buy a plot or rent it privately, or if they're trusts, co-ops, municipally allocated, or what. No doubt it varies wildly by country. :)

grand allotments - could they be owned by people in flats - like in Spain where they buy plots of land outside the town and may or may not have a building on them
