We heard a tip that there were two Storks nesting close to our house.
About a mile away!
Cycled over to see what we could see and were treated to a Stork-fest!
One parent was standing on the nest, we could just see a fuzzy grey head
popping up now and then, then parent #2 arrived.
This was just what I was hoping for because they always do that courting
ritual thing with the clattering beaks and throwing the head back.
Then a third one swooped in!
They were having none of it and Papa-Stork flew after him and saw him off.

Boet, we have to get back there first thing in the morning (It's Whitsun
bank holiday but I'm working in the afternoon) with a tripod coz these snaps
suck.

Cheers guys.
The subject is superb, the photos are rubbish.
300mm maxed-out zoom in a strong wind, 1/60th sec exposure, no tripod, equals a LOT of shake.
Going back tomorrow morning with a sturdy tripod to try again. Hope they oblige again.

Also liking the top one. As to shake - weren't you just trying to convey the breathless excitement of seeing real stork family drama? And that?

Considering the conditions looks like you did pretty well. That top shot is fantastic.

After trying out my Sigma 70-300 lens under strict scientific conditions (in the back garden, resting on a stack of books) I have decided it's rubbish and therefore fully justify myself in ordering the Nikon VR 70-300 which will arrive before next weekend and those chicks ain't going nowhere before then.
Got to go to work now, unfortunately.
