swamprose says:

how did you travel all the way to sakhalin? how long did it take?

kino means movie. what did you see in Khomsk?

bfish says:

moscow to sakhalin - 8 hours by plane.

Kholmsk is a ferry town to the mainland. We got stuck there because the ferry-boats are for industrial goods and take humans only as a side dish, and because of the current situation the freight traffic is very irregular.

there are many homeless dogs, abandoned houses, and used right hand drive cars there.

Also, there is a big movie theatre in Kholmsk. They screen pirated dvd's for $3, and the tickets were printed back in the USSR times. "РСФСР" in the corner means "Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic".

plenty of these animals too

if the tickets were printed that long ago, I guess there hasn't been a lot of people going to see movies. or they have a lifetime supply of tickets.

8 hours by plane? wow. that's days on a train. was it a trip back to 1982 in some ways? severobaykalsk soviet era buildings are falling down. they show that times have changed, people have left. the Russian countryside is a different place than the cities? much like Canada, except for soviet era construction.

soviet era bed bug?

the nature is beautiful - where not spoiled by man - much like canada, probably.
the cities are all different.
the countryside is all the same.
the time machine to soviet era is byelorussia and siberia is something else.
the bug is a tick and it almost cost me $200. luckily it was not infectious
