Don't remember if calla lilies have a scent (bottom flower), but the top 3 are beautiful to see AND smell! (moonflower, top, especially!)
Nice pics from a phone. :)
Hi americanfriend i couldn't smell that 1. Nice to see all these wild flowers though.
If you get the opportunity to go back, the top flower opens in evening and is most fragrant then and overnight. It attracts night pollinators such as moths. There amazing to watch open; it happens right before your eyes, and their fragrance is a heavy perfume of jasmine-like quality.
(It's nice, if you're into flowers and their smells...which I am, as I certainly am waxing on about this particular one! sorry)
Then again, maybe it is a different flower entirely! I've been wrong before...it's true. :)
Ok thanks for the info americanfriend i'll wander past to night and see what i find.
Oh forgot to say a friend mentioned the "magic hour" to photo but didn't say when this is. Do i assume its early morning and late evening when sun is low ?
When I grew it, it opened around 4pm in late August, so not quite twilight or dusk, just before then; early morning is when it starts to fade. :) So evening time is correct for the freshest flower and strongest scent. :)
for magic hour photography - yes, you'll see the light turns, it normally this time of year I think it has a more pastel colour but it's almost always better for clarity. Mid day washes colours for example
