A Hawthorne Shield Bug, no less. I found a nymph too but it was so very tiny & would keep moving about, couldn't get a shot at all. A shame, was an alien-looking bugger; a fat jewel-green little bug with red antennae & weird, weird legs.

It's pretending to be a wasp, you've got to have a bit of volume to do that. Smaller than bluebottles mind.

Caine, I don't have your knack of getting in close so big lumps of colour come in handy. ;)
