"I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there can be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again." William Penn

Did he want to phone home? he's close enough to borrow yours.

JXL - I think he wanted to phone home, he was a friendly little guy. And though I have been blogging here for 3yrs almost exclusively with a camphone, today I have taken a leap forward in mega pixelly goodness

Stay tuned.

This is lovely Sprocket. I love starlings, they are the football hooligans of the bird world. We had starling nests in our roof this year. A neighbour reckons *we* fledged about 40 between us and then sparrows too...

29th Aug 2009, 22:00

Sprocket says:

I have a soft spot for starlings too, their feathers are rather wonderful when they catch the light, making an oilslick rainbow of colour.

I haven't seen many sparrows at all this year. I fear they are on their way out. Lots of long tail tits out this way here. They are becoming as common as pigeons.

29th Aug 2009, 22:10

Twiglet says:

We see plenty of sparrows here but when we were in London we hardly ever saw them. I am assured by the neighbours here who unlike us are *local* people that the sparrows here are hedge sparrows, not house sparrows like they have in towns. They maybe hedge sparrows but they certainly nested in my house's eves.

The starlings are so pretty and so varied too. They move across our lawns after the rain in great big gangs!

Sprocket says:

well, the most common birds in my neck of the woods are the ring-necked parakeets which outnumber all the other birds 4 to 1.

29th Aug 2009, 22:23

Twiglet says:

Yeah I know. I know your end of Surrey. BS adores the parakeets. We don't get them here in the same numbers as we did in Putney but they're here too.
