Nottinghill Carnival 2009

Now fare enough I arrived late but this level of Police manning was ludicrous.

More like the Berlin wall than a London Festival.

Yes they are the Floats, behind the metal fence, past the police officers, and the other side of a metal barrier.

I was sooo disapointed.

Crazy!
What are those two numpties doing up on that platform to the right?
"Observing"?
They certainly know how to kill a party.

I don't know. I've been every year for the past 10 and the crowds just get bigger and bigger. Police presence is huge but I think they do a good job considering. It's a shame you just had a dreadful spot. In other parts of the route you can get on the road and dance along if you want.

Sunday is a lot less busier than the monday, but still very busy. The trick is to go early and find parts of the carnival route which are further away from stations like Ladbroke Grove etc. There's much more room and you can actually get in and involved without having to peer over barriers.

from the thumbnail I wondered if you were posting more G20 'riot' shots..

Nige like any photographer I picked the photo I posted.

I did get inside the cordoned off area but really didn't enjoy the over policing.

D that was my idea. They were telling the same lies to the public about access to the carnival as they did at the G20 protest when they locked us al down.

Taniwha from what I saw it would have been fine, especially early as Nige suggested.
