1. Long shadows.
2. A Golden landscape.
3. A big sky.
4. Freshly ploughed.

The Autumn equinox is some weeks away yet but autumn is gaining ground with some trees already beginning to lose their leaves. The low sun means long shadows and crisp contrasts that highlight the golden hues of the stubble left behind by the combine harvester prior to being turned over by the farmers plough. Elderberries are hanging heavy in the hedgerows now along with nearly fully ripened sloes. It's a shame that so much of it goes to waste at this time of year. Smaller sweeter blackberries are also ripening in the hedgerows and are much tastier than last months larger variety found growing on rough ground.

Moblog, thanks for highlighting 'Autumn Gold' as an 'outstanding photo' I just had to share those views, the intensity of the colour and the feeling of space were just breathtaking. I must have spent half an hour just wandering around that field absorbing natures palette.

I walked back to the field the following evening and all the bales and ricks had been cleared. We've moved on since so the stubble may have been ploughed in by now.

Thanks to everyone who commented, it was appreciated.
