Jaunty? or Karmic beta? if you're not too bothered about doing regular updates, I highly recommend the Karmic beta, it has many nice feature improvements over Jaunty.
Ummmm just had a look and it was jaunty. Don't know how I'd have chosen differently as there didn't seem to be an option.
Oh you'd have had to download the beta specifically as it isn't the latest official release until 29th Oct. If you want you can get it here: http://releases.ubuntu.com/karmic/
It isn't hugely different, it boots a lot faster, has a different splash and login system, the network manager is quite a bit nicer and the overall look is much better (IE not as brown!)
haha cool. Thanks Joe, I'll go have a play with that in a bit after I prove to myself that I haven't broken everything trying to install it!! :D
Should you want to upgrade jaunty to karmic rather than re-installing the whole thing you can do so by doing alt-f2 and typing: update-manager -d
it'll need a network connection obviously and will take a while.
Wooo! Joe you just taught me a new kb shortcut!
I really should keep up to date. I didn't know there was to be another update this month.
:)Glad to be of service D
One of the best things about Ubuntu is their strict 6 month release cycle, I'm a sucker for new tech of any kind, so I always end up installing it on one of my machines around the Alpha 2 stage...which I often regret. Its always pretty stable by the time it reaches Beta though.
Well I was running Eeebuntu on my Eeepc, but when the 9.4 came round I uodated to it. And I'll likely update again. So I'm running this weird hybrid of Ubuntu and Eeebuntu. It works well though and I love it.
So far, aside from having to work out how to install flash plug ins, I'm liking it a lot :)
Ya know when I had to re-install a couple months ago, I had issues installing the flash plug-in and Adobe Air.
I've been trying to remeber "ALT + F2" for weeks now, thanks Joe :)
I've got the netboox remix on my lappy and it's fab - it was clunking along on vista before, but it's al better now!!
How did you do it in the end D?
Alt + F2 one to remember then, Cheers Joe :)
I saw that one sean, is it much different?
540 The easiest way to get flash working is to install the "flashplugin-nonfree" package, which you can find in Synaptic package manager or install by typing:
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
in a terminal
I use the Netbook Remix on my eeepc it's ok but I tend to switch the horrible clutter based interface off as its just too "fisher price" for me.
Fantastic, muchos thanks Joe, I'm getting there slowly but surely :)
