I've often thought that laptops ought to be lined with thermite ribbon. Organise a wee script that sends a password request to a central site when it logs onto the the internets, 3 goes to get the password right or it goes up in smoke, like Mission Impossible instructions...

Trouble is I always forget my passwords, so would need a new laptop every week!
Perhaps finger print scanner to turn on the computer?

you can already get lappy with eye and finger scanning and can even be blocked with a phone call to them that delets everything and makes them useless. but it costs.
