Set off poignant memories though as when Mum and Dad were in the warden assisted flat if she burnt toast all the alarms would go off and the warden would be cross and the fireman would arrive.
Poor Mum... you really don't need that as a fragile 90 year old!

Indeed, some of those automatic fire alarm systems are a tad-over-eager. On no account consider roasting your own masala seeds anywhere near them. Worryingly, many systems are so sensitive that people start covering them up. Am told it's been a problem in student halls since halls management started fining the students for needless fire brigade callouts.
