"And as you cross the circle line,
Well the ice wall creaks behind
You're a rabbit on the run.
And the silver splinters fly
In the corner of your eye,
Shining in the setting sun.
Well do you ever get the feeling
That the story's too damn real
And in the present tense.
Or that everbody's on the stage
And it seems like you're the only
Person sitting in the audience
Skating away, skating away, skating away
On the thin ice of the new day"

Thanks, Tomk. :) Tumbledowns are littered all over the North Dakota landscape. Little pieces of history.
Yes, Viv. And not just an owl, a great horned owl. I had walked up a ways to get a better shot of the barn; it wasn't until I was back in the truck and we'd gone a bit down the road I realized he'd been there staring at me the whole time. I screamed "that was an owl! there was a frigging owl, Rick!" My first owl here, and I didn't even see him.
I thought it looked a fine specimen :)
when the snow was around I saw a little owl 3 afternoons on the run on a small sapling near the road in a copse
Oh, lucky you. There is a wide variety of owls here, but I have the worst luck when it comes to seeing them. They just don't show up for me.
Bet he's still living there. We have to go and cruise gravel again real soon. I know where he lives..
Hahahaha, yes you do. :D We do need to get out and about soon; I wish it would warm up.
:) We like to take the back roads, which are never paved. I'd love to get a good shot of the owl.
lovely shots and it's great you got your first owl
:)
I'm sure you will btw
Thanks, Wendle. A lot of the tumbledowns look great in b&w; a lot depends on the light.
Cool! Gotta love dilapidated buildings :)
Great horned owls are surprisingly well camouflaged. I saw one in Alaska, but only after 5 minutes of someone trying to point it out to me. It was too far away to take a good photo though.
I do love the dilapidated buildings. :) I don't know if I'll ever see another Great Horned again. I'm still kicking myself over not noticing he was there. Ah, just looked at your shots, and you can tell that was a long distance. All I can do is hope I get the opportunity again. I'll hope for you too. :)
