I popped up in my Lunch hour to see what was occurring... one main road closed, a few protesters, a lot of local support for the protesters, a lot of Police (6 on horseback), a cherry picker, some baliffs and one soon to be Tesco Express store.

Wendle says:

This is awesome! (The fact that they squatted it, not the fact that they got evicted.)

Indeed. Once the Tesco is open I don't see it being the end of the problem. Two other stores in the city had their shopfronts damaged a week or so ago.

People power!

There is a proper report on the BBC News website homepage now;

It's a damn shame that Tesco are getting their way there. Since they got so aggressive, I've stopped shopping with them. They make me feel grubby.

The protestors looked to have a good deal of support, judging by that film - was there much local opposition or was it more the broader anti-Tesco movement? You've reminded me though, I keep passing some empty housing alleged to be landbanked by Tesco - must get the details onto the Empty Homes Register. :)

BTW, have you seen the Stokes Croft Corner "consultation" from Bristol council? Do think they should have a "none of the above" option.

It is a shame. When Tesco's do open I imagine a few more protests and smashed in shopfronts.

I haven't seen/heard anyhting about that, but after a quick Google do you mean this?

hildegard says:

Yeah, you can see the designs if you take a scamper through the online survey from the link on that page.
