Could have been poisoned, although it looks more like it got shot and dropped. Very weird.

Hi Puddikat! I wonder....

A public footpath runs through the field and I don't like to think of gun touting farmers firing where so many people walk their dogs but I suppose it's likely.

We wondered about poison which might explain why the body hadn't been eaten by anything else...

Also, it's not far from the road and DD wondered if it could have been struck by a car and staggered up to the field to die.

I might ask my neighbour. He's lived here a while and is quite wise in the ways of the countryside. He probably rolls his eyes at us Townies but he's kind and never seems to mind sharing his wisdom. : )

How curious. Macabre, but curious!

I think the road sounds like a logical explanation but the not being eaten by anything else is weird. I'd love to hear what your neighbour thinks.

Apparently the mystery is partially explained if I admit that I cropped the unopened parachute out of the right hand side of the photo...

Still don't know why it didn't get picked by crows though...

What happened to the person with the parachute? It is odd though that it wasn't eaten unless it happened during snow or frost and was too cold and then too decomposed.

The parachute belonged to the fox! : D
