"And as you cross the circle line,
Well the ice wall creaks behind
You're a rabbit on the run.
And the silver splinters fly
In the corner of your eye,
Shining in the setting sun.
Well do you ever get the feeling
That the story's too damn real
And in the present tense.
Or that everbody's on the stage
And it seems like you're the only
Person sitting in the audience

Skating away, skating away, skating away On the thin ice of the new day"

It's been a busy month. Been trying to get on with house things, like ripping all the carpet out (previous owners saw fit to use about a zillion staples, along with nails and glue), replace decks, do more planting and so on.

I rescued another baby bat, who decided to hang from the back of my head, so I had to do a series of rabies shots, which was a right pain in the arse, having to go into town all the time.

The spine has had some bad moments, doing okay now. It's also been thunderstorm central around here the last couple of months, so net service has been iffy.

Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear about your back but well done on the carpet. How is the bat doing?

20th Jul 2010, 20:17

Caine says:

Thanks, Euphro. I know you know all about doing the house stuff. :) The bat recovered nicely and after hanging from my window frame for quite a while, set off. Hopefully, he/she found an adult and is okay. That's another thing - we *have* to put a cover on the cat kennel. These babes drop off their mom and go right through the chain link roof, where the cats find them.

Shala says:

Was this another baby bat other than the one mentioned in the thread?

I'm sorry to hear about your back.

20th Jul 2010, 21:35

Caine says:

Same bat as in the endless thread, Shala. Fortunately, there haven't been any others since. (Why do I get the feeling I should knock on wood?) ;D

The spine? Eh, old news. It has good days and bad days. I'm going to have to go back to the endless thread and bookmark everyone's blogs. Did you write that new post about sexism and gaming?

20th Jul 2010, 21:40

Shala says:

I was a bit occupied with Team Fortress 2 but I'll begin writing it likely within an hour (or whenever I decide to go out to get a delicious McFlurry), thanks for asking.

20th Jul 2010, 21:56

Caine says:

:) I'm back on the endless thread for a moment, getting blog urls and other necessities. We might be in for a long haul with the strike.

Shala says:

Alright, it's done!

I can't post the link here, but it's the top post on my blog.

I hope you enjoy. Should I post it in the endless thread as well? I always worry that I might be advertising a bit too much.

20th Jul 2010, 22:45

Caine says:

Thanks, I'll check it out shortly. If you want to post it to the endless thread, do it - it's not blogwhoring, so don't worry about that. Everyone's feeling a bit bad about the strike anyway, so it might help.

Like clouds. I love it. I've missed your pictures! And I'm glad to hear the bat made it through okay, though... rabies shots. Ew.

21st Jul 2010, 02:54

Caine says:

Thanks, Angel! It was really nice to get out and shoot for a change. I'm pretty sick of house stuff. The shots, they weren't bad, but I had to be in Bismarck every 3 to 5 days for a couple of weeks. You know how clinics are, hurry up and wait all day. ;D

Awwww.

Sorry to hear your back troubles are still going on.

By the way, I adore this photo. It's just incredibly lush.

Catching up with moblog always takes time and the house has taken over for me too! Hopefully be on top of it soon!
It is a pleasure to catch up with your blog every picture a gem.

Caine says:

Hi, Itchy. Well, can't do anything about the spine; sometimes I have to cave to its demands. ;) Thanks!

More house stuff, Viv? I'd have thought you conquered your house by now. It's never ending, isn't it? Just getting the carpet out has been a nightmare.

Thank you! It's been really good to have time to catch up with everyone here.

another wonderful shot Caine
sorry to hear about the back, suspected it might be something like that and hoped it wasn't

22nd Jul 2010, 16:40

Caine says:

Thanks, Dhamaka. The back hasn't been overly bad; I have stressed it with ripping carpet out and such, but it's past time all this house stuff was done.

Wendle says:

Argh, carpets! I had enough of them at the allotment, covered in couch grass.
Nice to see you back :)

23rd Jul 2010, 16:40

Caine says:

I share the anti-carpet sentiment, Wendle! Thanks. :)

Spiderbaby says:

Another one catching up here. Hope the back (and bat!) are feeling better now.
Gorgeous shot. I think I'm going to have to go on somewhat of a faving rampage :)

27th Jul 2010, 01:23

Caine says:

Everyone's good, Spiderbaby. I go through faving rampages myself. Thanks. :)

Viv says:

In the 25 years we have lived here the living room had had minor projects done but had basically remained much the same. It was probably 50years ago that it had had any major work and had the then modern fireplace put in! I desperately wanted a stove to keep the whole house warm in winter - an insurance came up and so I used it. New projects are in my head though :)

7th Oct 2010, 11:17

Caine says:

You must have been so happy, Viv! We have a long way to go in the living room, who knows how long it will take us to do.
