What have you used for the red lining? It looks like fuzzy felt flocking.

It's a kind of stretchy velveteen/velour, there are bigger pics of it on facebook where you can maybe see better - same stuff as I used for the walnut shells a while back.

does the key actually open it? how does it work? is it like a clock, always ticking? I was looking at your photos on facebook last night before bed and wondered if there was anything inside!

Kelly - the key winds up the ticker - ticks for 60 minutes which would be a very hard boiled egg! X

Ahh! So it just opens by a clasp or something? Could you (hypothetically) keep winding it every half an hour or so to keep it going?! I think I might get a bit OCD if I owned it hehe.x

It's got a hinge and a single tiny screw to keep it shut. You're not really supposed to open it up but it's part of a series called 'toys for the inquisitive child' you can wind it up as much as you like. The mechanism is new but there are no guarantees on how long the ticker might last, i wouldn't like to take a heart for granted. Your story seems to be about maintenance! I must look up those seven stories categories that all stories fit into and see which one yours is X
