There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in
Mon pays, c'est l'hiver.
my dog blog
my Flickr photos, where my plants and fungus live
Gorgeous set! And so superbly to see you again. I'm here lately, very rarely. So .. I want to say, that I could to write something very similar what about Moblog and Facebook and that all .. This is really sad situation. :(
thank you shitake. shitake is a mushroom, after all, so no wonder you like my photos..and yes, it is sad for everyone who cares about moblog.
My pleasure,Swamprose. Sure ;) I almost forgot about my nick. .. What about Moblog maybe yet will be better ..
That top one is crazy.
My Facebook account is pretty much dormant unless I get an email telling me something and I don't have a Flickr account...so Moblog is my interwebs home too :)
Pfah, all this flash-in-the-pan flavour of the month social media stuff, we'll see who's still standing at the end of the day.
Y'all guys are awesome. Awesome and mad, obv.
thanks for the HL. It always feels good.
and Rich, you are right--social flava of the month is facebook.
and hey, Nige, how about commenting HERE so we know you still care..
Well said, Swamprose. It's nice to see you posing. I still hang out here despite the technical woes partly because they don't bother me that much (maybe I'm easily pleased) but mostly because I like the people. I use Facebook but that's a different gig altogether. Unlike Facebook, Moblog is an open door and an invitation, and I love it for that.
Absolutely,Taniwha. I still can't to understand why people so much like Facebook .. I have a few blogs but this kind of blog like Moblog and for example my blogs at Opera, have a something really special, personal, only these technical problems ..
I agree with all the above. I don't know - I was an early adopter of the internet and I've been the last person standing on so many sites now I feel like I've seen it all before - that said none of the other places are as significant to me as here.
And also the visitor rate to the site is still pretty high.
Yummy looking mushrooms. I want to take bites out of them Alice-style.
Hey, doesn't mean that that is what I do do when I stumble upon fungi growing wild.
I never felt as if I had to CHOOSE between Moblog and Facebook! I'm quite happy using both. They're two different groups of people, with some overlap, and serve two quite different functions. For example, I very rarely post photos on Facebook; I post photos on Moblog & occasionally link to them there from FB. On the other hand, I very rarely post a link to an interesting article on Moblog.
Gorgeous shots.
I'm new here on moblog so I don't know how it used to be, but it's starting to feel like I arrived too late... when everyone else is leaving. :(
ah there's plenty of people in the cracks :) and we're glad to have you Dania!
Plus.... I'm very uncertain as to the ownership issues of pictures posted on fb. When I post on moblog I'm confident I still own the picture.
And I can't help but point out (puts science hat on) that fungi and plants are a whole different thing. Different kingdoms in fact. Just sayin'.
Spiderbaby says she'll be posting more soon. Mostly in revenge for the pirate golf 'stocks' photo. Expect to see my chins : (
the technical side is what has really slowed down my visits....but I still keep popping in...this is home. You know, we sometimes don't visit often enough but we still feel happiest there....
* edit
That top shot of a waterfall of fungus is stunning :-)
crickson: And I can't help but point out (puts science hat on) that fungi and plants are a whole different thing. Different kingdoms in fact. Just sayin'.
Not only that, but (*puts lab coat on*) fungi are actually more closely related to animals than to plants!
these are both amazing pictures the second one is my most favourite of the two
I'm still here too, 5 years at Christmas and 6 months lurking before that. And I agree with and second everything taniwha said a little further up the page.
Mad fungi BTW!
I have have a couple of guises on moblog and it's still the place I come to talk to good friends from all over the world. Yes it's quieter now but as social networking goes through it's experimental phase, I think people will recognise the value of a site like this one.
Facebook is too much a mish mash of too many people's stuff filtering inot my site. I like Moblog better. It's more cleanly organised and attracts only the best people and works! ;-)
And Swamprose, please don't stop putting your photos up- they are so beautiful!
I do still care and I'm always watching, but the site's continually crawling pace has had me posting and commenting less & less over time; I didn't just decide to up and disappear one day.
More than anything your post makes me sadly nostalgic but your comment upsets me even more. I know my roots and I know what I owe to Moblog, but I also know just how much time & effort we have all contributed to the site. I am disappointed. I can't even begin to imagine how disappointed Mat must be. If Moblog ran on the love & affection of the community then I'm sure it would be speeding along. If more posting & commenting would actually make the site run quicker, then you'd better believe i'd be doing it. We all would, wouldn't we? Sadly, the site runs on Ruby and I don't know how to code it.
paintist sums it up best for me.
Gorgeous shots, sRose. I agree with you about facebook, I think it's something of a monstrosity and I have nothing to do with it these days.
Moblog created and fueled my love of photography. The people here became my heart in many ways. I've hated seeing people be much happier with stuff like FB.
I now have broadband, but for at least two hours today, I would have sworn I was back on dial-up, moblog was so slow. This is a huge problem for everyone and if these issues aren't dealt with, people will get so frustrated they just won't bother anymore.
I do not want to see that happen, however, outside of nagging people to death about it, I have no practical way of helping. I wish I could actually do something.
I've got to jump in and say that it's not that I'm much happier with stuff like Facebook, but point out, again, that Facebook and Moblog do not preclude one another.
The practical way of helping Moblog is to keep posting and commenting. That's actually doing quite a lot.
I know you're still around Nige. Any truth to the rumours that a Moblog 3 is in the works?
I'm still around and enjoy looking at any and all pics that you and other friends post up.
Funny where one finds a discussion on moblog...
perhaps after we fuelled so much excitement and hope it was harder to take and most of us have had breaks
but it still ticks over and there is hope...
best perhaps to hope quietly :)
don't make the mistake of getting too excited
it's been a special place for me and I treasure my friends here
Just looked at your flicker some lovely pics and some that were not plants that would definitely have stirred interest here- such as board games and lattes
won't comment there as I have no need for a Flicker account -lovely pics are not enough for me, but can see why you post your plants and fungi there
As Facto says different places for different needs
Oh dear, I have been absent from Moblog for some time, not because of any technical problems (I only ever posted once a week but did follow and comment on the site on an (almost) daily basis). My absence has been for personal reasons and I am hoping that I will soon be back posting and commenting again soon.
Moblog is still very close to my heart, I will always associate it with the warmth, humour and practical support that it gave to Alex in the time he was part of the site from his first post until his death (and from you SR in a very supportive email after his death)
I have no other internet presence (Facebook, Twitter, Flicker etc have never appealed), I am sad to hear that the site is slowing down to such an extent that people are dropping out because of it .... I am still a supporter .... and I will be back :)
well, that certainly livened up the conversation around here. I am back for good from the woods. Time to snuggle up together for winter.
Funnily enough, I've noticed a real flurry of activity around here lately: Joe, Matt, Alfie, test posts.
Scratches chin, very interesting...
