I have on one occasion seen some seen students in an inflatable dingy downstream of this point. It was summer and the water a lot calmer but not sure if they actually went down it.
I've zipped over steeper weirs than this in the Czech Republic ... can be a hairy experience though.
I'd love to do that. I've been kayaking which is good fun (though I hate capsizing!).
The weirs were scary and while the kids were incredibly gung ho, my wife was definitely iffy. As you float down the river there is a tradition of shouting 'ahoy' at others in other rafts. The other thing is that you have to put to shore at these little BBQ encampments where they sell you beer for 50p a pint and awesome sausages.
