What a lovely fungus! It's a kind of Auriscalpium vulgare, which grow on decaying pine cones. If you look underneath, there are no gills, just hanging teeth, so it is known as the earpick fungus. I have no idea why...

I love fungus. nice HL.

Euphro says:

Auriscalpum vulgare is not a bad suggestion, given that the fungus is growing on a pine cone; however, the ear-pick fungus is strongly asymmetric (the stem attached to the side of the cap) and really looks like a small brush. This has the form of a Mycena species and may be Mycena seynesii, the pine-cone fungus :)

Thank you all and thanks for the HL! :)

Swamprose and Euphro, thanks for the suggestions. Looking at the photographs it does look like a Mycena species but I don't know. I love fungi but sadly I don't know nearly as much as I would like to know about them. I've been considering taking a course unit on Algae and Fungi next year (it's optional) although it's a bit outside my area (biochemistry). Will have to ponder on that...
