I am married to Spiderbaby and live in Banbury, Oxfordshire after eight years living in the USA and Sweden. I am working and training as a clinical scientist for the NHS in Oxford.

There are now over ten years of photographs on my blog! It all started with a photograph I took on the 1st of May 2004... It's been a wonderful journey, thank you all who have shared it with me, and made this blogging community one I keep coming back to!

Interesting things I read recently:

"Only one in five people born [in the UK] since 1975 believes in God".
Source: Prof David Voas, University of Essex

"For every dollar invested in the Human Genome project, $141 was returned to the US economy". Francis Collins, NIH
Source: New Scientist 27 July 2013.

I am Pavlovs_dog on PSN and would be happy to link up with Playstation-owning mobloggers : )

Too Much Information: The first album I ever bought was the Fraggle Rock soundtrack. Pretty cool, eh? I was only 16 : )

Having cake-related issues?

Still, plenty of time to sort it out, but it's not half as easy as it should be.

Is it a fruit vs sponge thing? Becuase they went with both...

14th Sep 2005, 11:00

seaneeboy says:

Oh yeah, that hurdle we're pretty much over - it'll be fruit vs chocolate :)

Only problem being you can't really have white icing on a choccy cake (or can you? just doesn't seem to work in my head is all) and then there's the shapes etc - blimey, eh?

14th Sep 2005, 11:04

crickson says:

You could have white chocolate....

Ann made the shapes out of icing, but there was the problem of sticking them to the cake. Raw egg white isn't suitable for pregnant women. I suggested prit-stick, because of it's flawless safety record.

Hehe - you can't fault the logic!

Joe says:

We're having chocolate sponge, I can't stand fruit fact I don't really like cake, but I can handle a little chocolate cake.

seaneeboy says:

How are you handling the icing?

14th Sep 2005, 11:21

Ann says:

I've seen chocolate cakes "iced" by coving them in chocolate curls/shavings, you can put real flower heads on also to decorate, or fancy fruit like strawberies or starfruit? I guess it depends on your colour scheme and what you like.

Or you could use smarties, or chocolate buttons (milk, dark, or covered in sprinkly things), or chocolate fingers or flakes, or if you want to be fancy you can make leaf imprints on melted chocolate... Or as Crickson suggested last night you could cover balloon animals in elted chocolate then burst the balloons to leave stylish chocolate effigies. At least I think that's what he said.

15th Sep 2005, 11:23

crickson says:

Yes, although you'd have to let the air out of the balloons slowly or you'd break the chocolate.
