Much Simpler When

Life was much simpler when apples and blackberries were just fruits...

(Quoted all over the place, I've no idea of it's origins)

These blackberries were growing on the South Downs at the weekend. Am I mistaken or is the blackberry season longer than usual this year? They were side by side with some beautiful holly which was covered in berries.. I photo'd the holly too in case I get press ganged in to contributing to the Advent calendar again this year and I don't see anything I like better.

NB My usual date is the 19th Viv!!

I think Blackberries were out for quite a while. When we went out there were some semi decent ones side-by-side with some very old shrivelled ones. Kind of weird.

And yeah! The Advent Calendar. But nice to see it again. I'm in ...

Thanks taniwha and Viv : )

I've also seen blackberries in various stages, even still in flower, all next to each other. How our fruit gathering forebears must have blessed this prickly shrub for the length of it's season....

I din't mean to introduce the subject of Christmas so early on but truly there is some stunning holly around. A hard winter to come perhaps?

Edit: I have corrected the spelling. My brain is as a shrivelled wizened old blackberry this morning. Too many WW spritzers last night. Be warned, this is what happens when you consume girl's drinks... ; (
