My mum looks forward to the Moblog Advent Calendar every year. It's the
only thing she really understands of what I "do" or am involved with on
this thing called the Internet. She'd be the first to admit that
she understands advent calendar better than even Facebook, which she
doesn't understand. The reason she understands it is because she
understands that it is organized from volunteering, held together
by goodwill and fueled by artistry, thoughtfulness and creativity. It is
sustained by timeless efforts and tireless values that "technology" merely
provides another means of self expression that she is already familiar with.

So it's great for me that a photo of her has been snuck into this years
edition. We took these photos together at the Rockefeller Center, New York
and she suggested I try and do a selfie reflected in the bauble, but due to
physics, the result was that we actually all ended up in it, my mum, my dad
and myself.

I share this because last week my parents came to visit me for the first
time since I moved across the pond 5 years ago. It was important to me and
for all of us really, as a family. In a way, they returned my heart to me
by making that trip. Now they understand why I can call home 3500 miles
away. And my heart can be where my home is. Distance is no match for
the love of family.

Time and space are dimensions but reality is love.

So, I am glad for all these experiences. And thankful. And wish you and
yours, the same peace that comes from knowing you are loved, no matter
where you are, from no matter where they are, no matter how far away or how
long ago.

"Peace be unto us, peace be unto all."

I love that last shot, it looks like a movie version of a dystopic Marble Madness. At odds with the message, which is the first feeling of seasonal warmth I've experienced this year. Lovely.

Lovely to see you all extended internet fam! I'm glad these words touched you as I had to check my internal "is this an overshare?" monitoring system.

Normally I feel to say less on social media, as I worry about hamming it up and getting a little weird or gushing, but last night (at 2am when I sat bolt upright remembering today was my day and that day had already started on the other side of the world) as I wrote this I thought, "I've known these people virtually longer than most people I know in the real world, they literally know everything and would know if I am holding anything back. If I can't express what I feel to these people, I can't say it to anybody." Which in a way was it's own revelation!

Also, inevitably I sent it to mum and she loved it, and asked earnestly, "how can I see the moblog calendar every day?" (which is proof of just how much she doesn't understand the Internet, LOL!) and said, "It reminded me of a Hermann Hesse quote you sent me ages ago."

"One never reaches home. But where paths that have an affinity for each other intersect, the whole world looks like home, for a time." - Hermann Hesse

Which is also a nice cosmic refraction as, in that quote, Hesse seems to describe that intangible feeling and experience of "Moblog Phone Home" that we've come to treasure together! So I'm glad to let it all out and even happier to hear it land on such kind ears. Posting to moblog is it's own medicine.

Lots of love to all. High fives all around, moblog fam. Merry Christmas!
